Handcrafted Festive Toran
Handcrafted Festive Toran
This is a traditional, handcrafted Indian decorative door hanging, known as a Toran or Bandhanwar, typically used to adorn the main entrance of a home during festivals like Diwali, Navratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, weddings, and housewarming ceremonies (Griha Pravesh).
• Design and Colors: The base is a vibrant red fabric strip, often velvet or a rich satin, embellished with a golden lace or trim (known as gokru or gota work) along the edges. The dominant colors are auspicious red (symbolizing power and love) and gold/yellow (representing prosperity and light).
• Embellishments:
• Flowers: Features yellow or saffron-colored, fabric-based faux roses or marigold-style flowers.
• Danglers (Latkans): The main decorative elements hanging below the strip include:
• Red Tassels: Bright red, silky thread tassels (latkans).
• Golden Rings/Hoops: Ornate metal or plastic rings with intricate cutout work, often studded with rhinestones or beads.
• Pearl/Bead Work: Small decorative pearls or beads (like the single white pearl visible on the left) are used to finish the design and add a touch of elegance.
• Purpose: It is hung across the top of the doorway to welcome guests, signify a festive occasion, and is believed to invite good fortune and prosperity (Goddess Lakshmi) into the home while warding off negative energies.
